Following on for a request from one of our lovely readers in the US (which by the way is awesome and we’re completely blown away by having readers from the US!), we’re sharing a pattern using US crochet terminology.
This pattern is suitable for crocheters of all levels. The basket is worked in the round, so having a stitch marker is essential so you know where your rounds end. Move the stitch marker up each round so you don’t lose your place
Materials needed:
8mm Hook
Chunky Cotton Rope Yarn - I have used ”Return of the Mac” yarn from Hobbycraft
Stitch marker - could use a bobby pin or safety pin too
Scissors
Yarn needle
Pattern: (in US terms)
Foundation: Magic ring, ch1, 6 sc in to the MR and pull closed (Mark the first sc with your stitch marker) (6sts)
Round 1: 2 sc in to each stitch (12sts)
Round 2: 2sc in st, 1 sc in next st - repeat all the way round (18sts)
Round 3: 2sc in st, sc in next 2 sts - repeat all the way round (24sts)
Round 4: 2sc in st, sc in next 3 sts - repeat all the way round (30sts)
Row 5: Sc in BLO (back loop only) of each stitch around (30sts)
Row 6-12: Sc in each stitch around (30 sts). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Hey presto! You have yourself a nifty storage basket. If you want to make a bigger basket, simply increase the number of rounds in your base, adding an extra dc each round: eg 2sc then 4 dc all the way round and so on.
