When you think of Cornwall, you think of pasties. Those delicious meat filled, peppery pastry pockets that are just a quintessential part of Cornish life and Cornish holidays. Nowadays you can get various flavours and fillings (I‘m partial to a steak and Stilton pasty myself), but the iconic shape remains.
And so, what is more fun than having your own Cornish pasty hanging from your tree? A yarn version, as I think it may get a bit messy hanging really pasties from a Christmas tree, but if that is your style then who am I to judge?
Below is a super quick pattern to make your own hanging pasty decoration. It can be gifted to family, friends, neighbours, your local pasty maker… spread the pasty cheer! Please credit me as the pattern designer, and I would love to see your makes on social media so give us a tag
Materials:
4mm hook
DK yarn (I’ve used Stylecraft Special DK in Camel)
Toy stuffing
Ribbon or thread to hang
Yarn needle
Pattern: In UK terms
Round 1: MC, ch2 (does not count as st), 12 TR in to MC, sl st in to first st.
Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), 2TR in each st around, sl st in to first st.
Round 3: Ch2 (does not count as st), *1TR, 2TR in next st* repeat around, sl st in to first st.
Round 4: Ch2 (does not count as st), *TR in next 2 sts, 2TR in next st* repeat around, sl st in to first st.
Round 5: Ch2 (does not count as st), *TR in next 3 sts, 2TR in next st* repeat around, sl st in to first st.
Do not fasten off. Fold the circle in half. Ch2 (does not count as st), 5HTR through both sts held together, repeat all the way to the end, stopping 3 quarters of the way down to stuff then continue to the end. Sew in ends and add a hanging loop.
If you want to make your pasty smaller, complete round 4 then skip round 5. If you want to make it larger, add more round with one extra stitch before the increase on each repeat.
